Staycations on wheels are the way to go for 2020

You can go where you want with a caravan or motorhome

Everyone loves a holiday, and it seems more and more of us love taking our holidays in a caravan or motorhome.

At the moment it is estimated that there are around 555,000 touring caravans in the UK (these are the ones towed behind a car) and 225,000 motorhomes. That means a lot of people are choosing to holiday on wheels! There are also around 365,000 permanent caravan holiday homes

The British have long been the biggest buyers of touring caravans in Europe and the UK market is second behind America.

The head of the National Caravan Council John Lally says there are reasons why caravanning is so popular in the UK. He says that the new trend of “staycationing” is increasing its appeal, plus people are trending towards more frequent, shorter holidays throughout the year. Touring caravans, motor-homes and caravan holiday homes are perfect for this.

Mr Lally also says that caravans are a very British thing because as a nation, we love our independence, being able to do what we want when we want, and we also love exploring.

Another factor in the recent increasing popularity of caravans and motorhomes is the vastly improved facilities at modern parks. The old fashioned way of going on a caravan holiday and parking in a field, albeit near the coast, is long gone. Today right across the country you can find outstanding holiday parks, where you can arrive and park up, hook into electric facilities, and enjoy a range of facilities and activities to help make holidays really special, whatever sort of holiday you want. From peaceful parks in glorious situations with their own wildlife areas and fishing lakes to parks that go all out to entertain the kids or grandkids with indoor swimming pools and non stop entertainment, today there is a caravan park to fit every style of holiday.

Next month, starting on Feb 18th, the huge Caravan, Camping and Motorhome Show is taking place at the NEC in Birmingham. If you have ever considered a caravan holiday, this could be a good place to start as there are over 400 exhibitors showing the very latest ideas together with a host of experts to help explain what all the accessories and gadgets do! For anyone living in the west country, the West Country Caravan and Motorhome begins on Jan 24th in Exeter. Later on in the year, other local events are held across the country.

Because carvanning is now so popular, obtaining information about it all is very easy indeed. There are endless websites on line full of information, and there are also numerous printed magazines such as Practical Caravan and the Caravan Magazine. The Camping and Caravanning Club of Great Britain produce their own magazine, packed with information and ideas for vehicles and holidays.

Whether you want to buy your own, or rent a caravan or motorhome for a holiday, today there are numerous choices for everyone; and if you are approaching retirement, or already have a little extra time available for holidays; a caravanning or motorhome break might just tick all the boxes.
