Keep feeding the birds

This week - a special RSPB offer (closes March 25th)

We have been speaking to the RSPB who are concerned that people are beginning to stop feeding birds now that spring appears to be on its way.

Evidently this is not a good idea. With the nesting season approaching, birds still need all the help they can get to ensure they are in tip top shape before starting their new families.

The RSPB told Laterlife that temporary food shortage for birds can occur at almost any time of the year, and if this happens during the breeding season, extra food on your bird table can make a big difference to the survival of young.

They told us that birds time their breeding period to exploit the availability of natural foods: earthworms in the case of blackbirds and song thrushes, and caterpillars in the case of tits and chaffinches. It is now known that if the weather turns cold or wet during spring, severe shortage of insect food can occur, and if the weather is exceptionally dry, earthworms will be unavailable to the ground feeders because of the hard soil.

To help encourage people to continue feeding birds at the moment, the RSPB are offering a free delivery service on anything ordered from their online shop before March 25th.

The shop has lots of special offers and products to attract birds and wildlife to your garden; they even have a new cranberry crunch for hedgehogs!

The organisation emphasizes that 100 per cent of its profits go to help save wildlife.

To take advantage of this free delivery offer, you need to type in the following promotional code in your shopping basket before checking out:

T13ITH0304  (these are zeros, not letters)

and is available for UK deliveries only.

Visit shopping.rspb.org.uk or call 0845 1 200 501 for more information.
