Latest LaterLife Challenge Shortlist Announcement

Laterlife’s MD Tony Clack and Valerie Singleton leading the judging team for the 2014 Laterlife Challenge.

What an amazing number of excellent entries into this year’s Laterlife Challenge. It has been our biggest Challenge by far and it really is a credit to Britain that so many are making the most of retirement whatever their circumstances.

Our judging panel have had a difficult couple of weeks trying to decide on the final shortlist; so many entries were well worthy of an award. But a decision had to be made and first the top 100, then the top 50 and then the top names in each region gradually emerged.

Every person shortlisted is certainly making the most of their retirement years by taking part in a wide range of activities and experiences that cover all the key aspects of the Challenge including learning, helping others and new experiences.

But really it is big congratulations to everyone who took the time to enter. Your stories may well be a real help to others who have found the transition into retirement challenging. And every entrant will soon be receiving a Thank You discount voucher that can be spent on lovely gloves or other accessories at the Dents online shop.

Over the next weeks and months we will publish more details of what people are doing in the hope that their activities and enthusiasm for making the most of retirement will help and inspire others.

But in the meantime it is congratulations to all our shortlisters. The overall winners will be announced shortly.

LaterLife Challenge Update: The Results are soon to be announced

Laterlife’s Tony Clack and fellow judge Valerie Singleton checking some of the entries in the Laterlife Challenge 2014/15.

Well, we are nearly there.

Our judges have been pouring over the entries to the Laterlife Challenge, checking details, and entering points on a complex scoring system from all the entries from across the UK.

Thank you everyone for sending in such amazing stories. The age range has been excellent, spanning three decades from part retired people in their 50s to lively octogenarians, and the activities, adventures and the contributions to society that everyone is involved in is overwhelming.

We have had stories from people who have struggled against the odds to keep life on a balanced keel and people who have committed their entire weeks to helping charities; we have seen people achieve amazing academic results and people who have undertaken extraordinary trips and have shown serious athletic ability.

Our sincere congratulations – and thanks – to everyone who has entered our Challenge. We will be publishing the stories throughout the next few months and we know they will attract a lot of interest and maybe give some additional ideas on how to make the very most of later life.

The top 100, the top 50….now the judges are down to the final wire and during the last week of January we will be announcing the final regional winners for the South West, the South East, the East of England, the Midlands and Wales, Northern Ireland and the North of England and Scotland. Laterlife’s Tony Clack will be travelling around the country meeting the winners and making the official presentations.

Right at the end of the month we will also be announcing the overall winner of the Laterlife Challenge 2014/5.
