At laterlife we support the work of Help the Aged and each month we
bring you latest information from their email newsletter with links
to their website for full details.
HELP THE AGED WEBSITE UPDATE
Welcome to the website update from
Help the Aged.
What will you do to help disadvantaged older
people this year? Why not recycle your old
mobile phone to raise funds for Help the Aged,
or organise a fun event for friends and family
as part of our Big Spring Walk? See below for
details.
Also this month, spare a moment to take a look
at Just Equal Treatment, a new interactive
campaign which examines age discrimination
in the workplace, shops and services. Our
online JET pack will get you thinking and
give you ideas on how to make your voice
heard in Parliament.

1. Turn your old
mobile into cash
Help the Aged has been selected as one of the
beneficiary charities of the mobile phone
recycling company, Mopay. Until the end of March,
when you recycle your old mobile phone with
Mopay, 10 per cent of its value is donated to
Help the Aged, and the rest goes to you (or you
can donate the whole amount).
Cash in your phone and help us raise funds:

2. Help the Aged launches new guide to equity release
Equity release can allow some people to use their
home to supplement their income in retirement.
But it can be a complicated subject.
Our new guide to equity release includes advice
on assessing suitability, possible alternatives
to consider, and detailed information on all the
types of schemes available to older home owners.

3. Sign up for the
Big Spring Walk
Help the Aged is working hard to combat avoidable
winter deaths among older people. The British Gas
Help the Aged partnership publishes information
on keeping warm and runs a benefits advice
programme to help older people claim the financial
assistance they are entitled to.
Organising a fundraising walk is fun and easy, and
every penny you raise will help us to keep older
people mobile and active.

4. We want Just Equal
Treatment
People treat you differently when they see you as
old, even if you don't feel old inside. This is
not only hurtful but can also mean you don't get
job opportunities, access to quality services and
healthcare, or fair representation in the media.
But treating someone unequally because of their
age is unacceptable. You deserve a level playing
field.
