Talkback 86 August 2007
Talkback is a
regular feature in laterlife.com run by
journalist and author Helen Franks. Read Helen's views and ideas, then add your own by emailing her on helen@laterlife.com. Whatever your opinion on the subject under discussion, Helen wants to hear it. If you would like to suggest future topics for talkback, please email Helen with the details. And remember you can also start your own forum discussion thread by visiting the laterlife cafe When the computer gets inside your headIt’s all very well while your computer is operating smoothly, but when it goes wrong it’s horrible. I panic when my computer is up the creek. I have to get a woman/man in immediately. I note that women are few and far between in the computer business, with the notable exceptions of Rosemary Martin, who does what I call the ‘nuts and bolts’ of this website and Jackie Sherman who runs the You can do IT column in laterlife.com and who has written a book called Getting the Most from Your Computer: A Practical Guide for Older Home Users. I have to get a man in immediately called Tim from Micrologic in London. I have been told by my provider that my sent messages via email may not have been delivered. Well, it’s been a couple of weeks now since I was informed, but I still don’t know who has and who has not received all my messages. When the computer gets inside your head, it’s the time to read manuals and get up-to-date with the problem. Manuals have troubleshooting pages that put you wise. Manufacturers also have websites that also can solve problems and they have emails that deal with queries. Go to ‘Start’ if you can’t access the web, and then
the ‘Help’ menu. Previous talkback topicsHelen would still like to hear your views Don`t forget to take a look at Helen`s healthwise column too
