How to create beautiful holiday makeup

I am lucky enough to be in the south of France on holiday at the moment and it is hot, hot, hot! I still want to look good, however, especially if I am invited out to lunch or dinner. So here are some tips to help you to look fabulous if the sun shines on you this summer!

  1. Wear fake tan on your face. I would suggest that putting an older face into direct sunlight whilst sunbathing is a big no-no. Sun damages skin irreparably and is the quickest way to get dry, leathery, wrinkled skin. I apply fake tan (St. Tropez and Ambre Solaire are good ones) before bed so that my face takes on a lovely safe bronzed hue.

  2. Adjust the colour of you usual foundation with a darker tint. It is possible that the fake tan will give you enough colour on your face so that you can dispense with your foundation. But to look more 'polished' in the evening then mix a small amount of your usual Base with a much darker tint. That way you can save money and continually adjust the colour if your skin darkens as the holiday goes on.

  3. Wear a pretty pinky toned blusher - rather than an orangey-brown one. This will help your face to look softer and prettier with you tan. Our Fabulous Blush is cream to powder formulation and is perfect in the summer to add a lovely 'glow.'

  4. Wear a much more vibrant lip colour than usual. No pale nudes or soft pinks. I choose either Look Fabulous Forever Fuchsia, Cherry Red or Foxy Lady in the sunshine. The light is often very bright and your face will be able to take a strong colour on your lips. Apply a Lip Prime first, however, as a dark lipstick will accentuate any feathering or bleeding of the colour into the lines around your mouth.

  5. Go easy on the eye makeup in the summer. Groom, tidy and shape your brows with Brow Shape, apply a cream shadow or Eye Primer and then push some darker shadow into the base of the eyelashes with a small wedge shaped brush. Curl your eyelashes and apply a couple of coats of mascara - waterproof if you are swimming regularly and that is all you need to give definition without looking overly made-up.
