Chiltern Open Air Museum

Chiltern Open Air Museum is an independent charity that is home to more than 30 historic buildings which have been rescued and re-erected within 45 acres of beautiful countryside. It is located in Buckinghamshire, close to the town of Amersham and the village of Chalfont-St-Giles. We run educational activities for school groups and have a packed programme of weekend events including Medieval Jousting, Chiltern Warrior obstacle run and a Classic Car Show. Visitors can also enjoy our woodland walk, picnic areas, playground, animals, cafe and shop.

The Museum relies on a small, but dedicated community of volunteers. Volunteers are involved with all aspects of the Museum's work including areas such as the Ticket Office and Shop, Visitor Information Centre, Young Volunteers Club, Education, Events, Conservation, Catering, Buildings, Site and Farm and Historic Building Stewarding.

If you want to stay active after retirement, use existing or develop new skills, meet like-minded individuals or simply have fun in a beautiful rural setting then we need you. Home-Start is a voluntary organisation in which volunteers offer regular support, friendship and practical help to families with at least one child under 5 who are experiencing stress or difficulties. This may be because families are:
• feeling isolated in their communities
• finding it hard to cope because of their own or their children’s illness
• suffering a bereavement
• struggling to cope with the demands of caring for twins or triplets

They are looking for volunteers who have parenting experience, have a non-judgmental outlook and a caring and sensitive attitude towards others. Volunteers will visit families in their own homes to offer regular support, friendship and practical help in order to reassure parents that their problems are not unusual and to encourage their strengths and emotional well-being for the benefit of their children. All volunteers receive high quality training and an enhanced criminal records check before they are matched with a family.
