Implementing the UK Age Discrimination Act – 1 day workshop
Understanding the age
discrimination legislation is one thing. Creating
the response and preparing the organisation is quite another.
Our 1 day workshop will introduce you to the regulations but focuses on an
action planning approach for your organisation.
You have to determine what you are actually going to do to ensure that you
do not discriminate in:
-
attracting job applicants
-
assessing and selecting the right candidate
-
providing employment and vocational training
-
promotion and career development
-
pay and benefits (including pensions and employment
insurances)
-
redundancy and other dismissals
-
retirement
All employers MUST:
-
review their employment policies and practices
-
educate everyone, particularly their managers and team leaders,
not forgetting themselves (especially with very small employers) - nobody is
exempt from the legislation.
In addition as the so-called ‘pensions crisis’ takes hold, more
and more people will want and/or need to carry on working. Perhaps the days of
‘early retirement’ are numbered.
Employers are going to find it harder to persuade people to retire early (or
even at ‘normal’ age) and they will start to receive more job applications from
older people.
At the same time, they must watch for discriminatory practices against younger
people.
Employers must get their employment policies and practices in order, to respond
to the demographics and to avoid potentially expensive discrimination claims –
remember that there is no upper limit on compensation for successful claims!
Our 1 day workshop covers all the above topics to enable you to understand the
implications, but more importantly to focus on developing your anti age
discrimination plan – what to do, who will do it and by when.

Anti Age Discrimination Legislation became
law in the UK in October 2006. This gives rights to EVERY working
person in the UK and those applying for and undertaking vocational training.
