British School of Pisa

Pisa montageLearn Italian in Tuscany

Italianissimi, the Italian language department of the British School of Pisa, offers the chance to combine a Tuscan holiday with the opportunity to brush up or develop your Italian language skills.

Perhaps you are already a fan of Tuscany and travel here frequently or you have yet to discover this diverse and wonderful area. And equally, maybe you currently possess some knowledge of the Italian language or have been thinking about dipping your toe into it but just haven’t quite found the right opportunity.

Our school is run by British ex-pats who understand at first hand the challenges and rewards of learning a new language later in life. Working with our Italian-born staff, our philosophy is to create an environment which encourages and stimulates learning, but without your holiday becoming a rigidly structured week packed full of compulsory activities. After all, if you are in Tuscany, you will want to explore the area in British School of Pisayour own way, and have the opportunity to put your newly acquired Italian into practice at your leisure. Without doubt, even a smattering of the language will go a long way to deriving even greater pleasure from any trip to Italy.

Pisa: the perfect Tuscan base

Apart from its famous tower, Pisa is often overlooked by visitors, and yet it is a superb base for exploring this diverse and wonderful region by both car and public transport. 90 minutes by train will see you disembarking at Monterosso, the first of the five villages that make up the breathtaking Cinque Terre, or alternatively you can head south to glorious Siena. Within an hour you can reach Florence, the beautiful walled town of Lucca, stunning mediaeval Volterra, the astonishing marble quarries of Carrara or the stylish beach resorts of Viareggio and Forte dei Marmi, meaning there are plenty of excursions with which to occupy your afternoons after your morning lessons. And, armed with your newly acquired or improved Italian, you will handle public transport and asking for directions with consummate ease!
