seductive romance CHERI. Including an outstanding cast of Michelle
Pfeiffer, Rupert Friend and Kathy Bates, CHERI is an indulgent and
seductive love story set in 1920’s Paris, and is yours to own and rent
on DVD from 21 September 2009 from Path?Distribution Limited.
Director Stephen Frears (The Queen, Mrs Henderson Presents) and script
writer Christopher Hampton (Atonement, The Quiet American) have reunited
20 years after their international blockbuster Dangerous Liaisons, to
give us this beautifully filmed period piece CHERI, the adaptation of
the 1920’s novel Ch?i by classic French author Collette.
Set in pre-first World War Paris, CHERI is the story of the love affair
between L? de Lonval (Pfeiffer; Stardust, I am Sam), a famed courtesan
on the verge of retirement, and Ch?i (Friend; The Young Victoria, The
Boy in the Striped Pyjamas), the 19-year-old playboy son of her old
colleague and rival, Madame Peloux (Bates; Revolutionary Road, Titanic).
At the request of Madame Peloux, L? agrees to spend a few weeks with
her spoilt and callow son Ch?i, and to educate him in the ways of love.
However, their liaison unexpectedly grows into a full-blown romance
which goes on for six years. The infuriated Perloux takes her revenge
and secretly arranges a marriage for Ch?i and Edm? (Felicity Jones;
Brideshead Revisited, The Secret Diary of Anne Frank), the daughter of
another wealthy courtesan. L? and Ch?i try to come to terms with their
separation and do whatever they can in their power to get back with each
other.
CHERI is beautifully shot on beautiful locations in Biarritz, Paris and
Cologne. The decadent fashion, stunning scenery and star performances in
this film make it a perfect feast for the eyes.
