most popular detective shows that has ever graced the small screen.
1. Columbo’s killer catchphrase
is “Just one more thing...” which he uses to catch the killers off guard
at the end of each show.
2. The killer is always
revealed at the beginning of each show bucking the trend set by other
detective shows.
3. Columbo often refers to his
wife Mrs Columbo; however she has never been seen on screen leaving fans
to speculate as to her actual existence.
4. ‘Mrs Columbo’ was actually
made into a TV series in the late 70’s which won its lead a Golden
Globe®. However many fans argue that the series was not linked in anyway
and the character was married to another detective who happened to be
called Columbo.
5. Columbo prefers to drive his
1959 Peugeot 403 convertible.
6. Johnny Cash, Dick Van Dyke,
Billy Connolly, Faye Dunaway and William Shatner have all played
murderers on the show and Leslie Nielson once played one of the murder
victims.
7. Columbo’s first name has
never been spoken aloud.
8. Unusually for the 70’s
Columbo does not carry a gun and does not use physical force.
9. Bing Crosby was once
considered to play the role of Columbo.
10. Peter Falk put a dampener
on the fan rumour that the famous trademark raincoat has been placed in
the Smithsonian Institution by claiming it was upstairs in his closet.
