Set in a sleepy British seaside town
in the 1980s, IS ANYBODY THERE? tells the story of a morbid,
bookish 10-year-old boy whose parents have turned their house
into a retirement home. While his mother (Duff) struggles to
keep the business afloat and his father (Morrissey) copes with
the onset of a mid-life crisis, Edward (Milner) becomes
increasingly obsessed with the afterlives of the home’s elderly
residents, following them around with a tape-recorder to capture
the sound of the soul as it escapes the mortal coil… But
Edward’s macabre turn of mind is distracted by the arrival of
“The Amazing” Clarence (Michael Caine), an anarchic retired
magician and grieving widower who is determined to age
disgracefully. As an unlikely friendship blossoms between them,
the old man comes to terms with his past, the child masters his
fear of the future, and both learn to seize the day. An
uplifting tale featuring Michael Caine in his most honest and
powerful role yet and confirming Bill Milner’s status as a major
new talent.
IS ANYBODY THERE? is the latest feature film from BAFTA winner
John Crowley, director of the acclaimed Boy A and Intermission.
Starring two-time Oscar? winner Michael Caine (The Dark Knight)
and Bill Milner (Son Of Rambow), the film also features an
accomplished supporting cast including Anne-Marie Duff ( TV’s
Shameless), David Morrissey (The Other Boleyn Girl), Rosemary
Harris (Tom And Viv), Sylvia Sims (The Queen, Ice Cold in Alex,
TV’s Eastenders) and Leslie Phillips (Venus, Harry Potter). The
film is produced by David Heyman (the Harry Potter franchise;
The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas), Marc Turtletaub (Laws Of
Attraction), Peter Saraf (Little Miss Sunshine) and Rosie Alison
(The Boy In The Striped Pyjamas).

by midnight on the 31st October 2009. The winner will be
