Audrey Hepburn & Grace Kelly

Charm, glamour, humanity, wit, and elegance, are all words that are associated with these two legendary icons, who, during their lifetimes, made their mark on both the silver screen and the world at large. As a tribute to the enduring legacy of Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly, Universal Pictures and Sony Pictures Home Entertainment will add two 3 movie DVD box sets to their classic Screen Goddess Collection range of titles on 3rd April 2006. Each Screen Goddess Collection has an rrp of £19.99

Both were at the peak of their powers in the post-war period when Technicolor reigned supreme, Dior was ushering in his “new-look” and women were enjoying being real women again. Both incredibly talented actresses, winning an Oscar® each, were also paragons of style and sophistication. Audrey Hepburn was famously dressed by fashion legend Hubert de Givenchy - the two formed a fashion alliance that would last for the rest of their lives and create the unforgettable Audrey silhouette. Grace Kelly was equally blessed - fashion giant Hermes named one of their bags for her and today the Kelly bag is so sought after that waiting lists to purchase one are not uncommon.

The Audrey Hepburn box set includes three movies spanning three decades of her career; thriller Charade (1963, directed by Stanley Donen and co-starring Cary Grant tells the story of a widow tracing the mysterious circumstances of her husband’s death; Robin and Marian (1976) with Sean Connery about the autumn years of the legendary Sherwood Forest hero and his faithful consort and the Steven Spielberg directed romantic drama Always (1986), Hepburn’s final film with Richard Dreyfuss and Holly Hunter.

The Grace Kelly box set is a collection of three movies including a biopic of her life; Hitchcock’s classic thriller Rear Window (1954) co-starring James Stewart; the multi-award winning Western High Noon (1952) with Gary Cooper and Lloyd Bridges and The Grace Kelly Story (1983) a movie starring Cheryl Ladd as Grace and Ian McShane as her husband Prince Rainier of Monaco.

“I was born with an enormous need for affection, and a terrible need to give it.”
Audrey Hepburn
Born Audrey Kathleen Ruston in 1929 to an aristocratic family in Brussels her childhood was marred when the German Army occupied the Dutch town of Arnhem where she was staying at the time. After liberation Audrey moved to London to study ballet and began modelling. A string of small movies followed by her big break, which came when Collette herself chose her to star in the stage version of Gigi. Roman Holiday (1953) cemented Audrey in Hollywood and earned her an Oscar®, she rapidly moved from strength to strength with a string of hits finally ending her film career in 1986 with Always. Married twice, once to Mel Ferrer, with two children, Audrey never forgot her lean war years and from 1988 she served as a special ambassador for UNICEF a position she retained until her death in 1993 from cancer.

“I would like to be remembered as a decent human being and a caring one.”
Grace Kelly
Born into wealth and privilege in 1929, Grace Patricia Kelly defied the wishes of her Irish Catholic family and moved from Philadelphia to New York to pursue an acting career. Working as a model, Grace soon found work on stage and in the fledgling television medium; this gained her attention from film and she was soon starring in a string of movies including three classics from Hitchcock, making Grace the classic “Hitchcock Blonde”, and The Country Girl (1954) that would bring Grace an Oscar®. Her stellar Hollywood career would come to an end in 1956 when, after marrying Prince Rainier of Monaco, Grace Patricia Kelly became Her Serene Highness Princess Grace. In 1982 while driving with daughter Stephanie, Princess Grace lost control of her vehicle and fatally crashed her car.
