Kimby Osborne

Carnation Footcare's expert chiropodist Kimby Osborne offers her expert advice..

This month she looks at celebrity feet.

If you have any specific questions on any aspect of footcare please email your question to footcarequestion@ccdpr.com and Kimby will be happy to reply.

Q:   I'm going to swanky party with my boyfriend, and have bought a pair of strappy high heels. I want my feet to look as good in heels as all the celebrity feet I see in magazines, what can I do?

A:   Celebrities don't always have the best feet, in fact some of the most gorgeous faces have feet which are considerably less than gorgeous. For instance, Victoria Beckham and Naomi Campbell are beginning to sport unsightly bunions, probably due to wearing shoes which are too high and too tight

I've taken a look at some a-list feet - can you guess who the celebrity is, from my comments?

Mystery Feet 1

Mystery Feet 1 Here the second toe looks like it could be a hammer toe (grasping for the floor), but these feet in general are just lucky, lucky, lucky ….

Mystery Feet 2

Mystery Feet 2These feet look like they have a bunion on the way - all the toes slant away from the mid line of the body apart from the little toe which is bent back inwards .. could this be from too much dancing at the Moulin Rouge?

Mystery Feet 3

Mystery Feet 3The second toe looks longer than the big toe which can put pressure on the other metatarsal heads. The third toe looks short and raised which means extra pressure on the second and fourth toes. This has also made the fourth toe look like it has a big gap between it because it is walking on the left hand side of the toe pad only, which can cause a line of callous. The little toe pressing against fourth toe is a soft corn waiting to happen. Our basic instinct is to look away.

Mystery Feet 4

Mystery Feet 4While this girl might be from the block, these feet look like they are more used to walking up the aisle than pounding the pavement, they are in pretty good shape, although there may be a bit of excessive pressure under the big toe from high heel wearing.

Mystery Feet 5

Mystery Feet 5These feet are well looked after, and seemed to have survived many trips up the red carpet in high heels without too much damage - the sort of feet you want your friends to have.

If you want to get your feet in A-list, red carpet condition, follow Carnation's top tips:

  • Strengthen your feet and toes by consciously straightening your toes, then wiggle them around.

  • Get rid of corns with Carnation Corn Caps.

  • Stretch your heels by standing with your back to a wall with your feet shoulder width apart. Take a step forward and bend the front leg, keeping the back leg straight.

  • Walk in sand whenever you have the opportunity, which both keeps feet smooth, but also gives them a thorough workout.

  • To improve circulation, line a basin with marbles and fill with cold water. Immerse your feet and move them over the marbles. Then give your feet a good rub and put on some Carnation Silver Socks

  • File away unsightly hard skin for silky smooth feet.

  • For strong ankles do twenty ankle rotations per foot per day - ten in each direction. Make sure you keep your leg as still as possible, and rotate the foot from the ankle joint.

  • Prevent and treat blisters with Carnation Hydrocolloid Blister Care Dressings.

  • Whilst sitting, roll your feet backwards and forward over a tennis ball or a plastic bottle (filling it with sand can help). Concentrate on rolling on the arch area of your feet.
