Annual expenditure for gardens
 
  • 39 % spend less than ?100
  • 31 % between ?100-?250
  • 27 % between ?251-?500
  • 3 % over ?500. Considerably more men than women spend this highest amount.

Age groups spending between ?100- 250
a year on gardens: 

  • 29% of 50-60 year olds

  • 54% of 61-70

  • 17% of 71-80

Age groups spending between ?251-?500:
 

  • 8% of 50-60

  • 13% of 61-70

  • 63% of 71-80

 

 

How many hours a week spent gardening?

Among 50-60 year olds:

  • 24% over 5 hours

  • 17% between 3-5 hours

  • 32% between 1-3 hours

  • 27% less than an hour.

Among 61-70 year olds:

  • 9% less than an hour

  • 32% between 3-5 hours

  • 42% spend over 5 hours

Among 71-80 year olds:

  • 25% between 1-3 hours

  • 11% between 3-5 hours

  • 27% more than 5 hours
