If you suffer from recurrent bronchitis, emphysema or asthma, you might want to try the Buteyko breathing technique. Buteyko is based on the idea that most of us breathe in a way that exacerbates certain conditions. Generally, we are told that deep breathing is good for us as a method of relaxation, but the Buteyko method reverses this.

All too often, allergy symptoms are not taken seriously and sufferers are told ‘it’s all in the mind’, says Allergy UK. The charity is calling for more time and resources to be allocated to helping people who suffer from an allergy. Around 2% of the population suffer from a food allergy that can be life threatening. Hypothyroidism - when the thyroid is under-active - can lead to heart problems over time. But research reported in the Archives of Internal Medicine reveals that it can be damaging even at sub-clinical levels, when it is either undetected or is thought to be too slight to treat. Around 10 % of people suffer from the problem - and many more may have a slight, or sub-clinical, version of it. A blood test is needed to provide a definite diagnosis. Typical symptoms can include: fatigue; weakness; weight gain, or a difficulty in losing weight; coarse, dry hair; hair loss; cold intolerance; muscle cramps; constipation; depression; irritability; memory loss; abnormal menstrual cycles, or decreased libido. Once diagnosed, it's simple enough to treat in most cases, and doctors will recommend a pill that rebalances the thyroid.
To find out if you are a sufferer, put a thermometer under your armpit
for 10 minutes first thing in the morning. Anything below the standard
range of 36.6 - 36.8 deg C (97.8 - 98.2 deg F) could indicate an
underactive thyroid. Supplementing with zinc, and vitamins A and E can
help, as can the essential fatty acids.
