regales his

spent on Raloo Farm in 1950s Ireland, he strengthens the bond between
generations and gently imparts important life lessons along the way.
Keeping youngsters entertained is no mean feat, so to help you
become an even better grandparent, Jakers! has 10 top tips to
help you along the way. So, don’t be surprised when, as a result, on
Grandparent’s Day you get spoiled rotten for being just the best
grandparent in the world!
1. Have you heard the one about…: Take a cue from Grandpa Piggley
and retell a fun or interesting story from your childhood.
2. Cooking up a tradition: Grandpa Piggley’s native Ireland is
home to Irish Soda Bread and Irish Stew – dust off the old recipe book,
and cook a favourite meal with your grandchildren.
3. Bored of Playstation? On a rainy day, spend a fun-filled
afternoon around the table playing a favourite card or board game with
the whole family.
4. Once upon a time: locate a copy of your favourite story as a
child, and tell it to your grandchildren.
5
. Trip down memory lane: Take your grandchildren on mini family
holidays and visit the places where you lived, grew up or spent time – a
perfect starting point for making discoveries about one another!
6
. Picture this: Pull out the photo albums and take your
grandchildren on a visual getaway to your childhood. Remember a photo
they particularly liked – frame it and give to them.
7
. Song and Dance: Get dressed up with your grandchildren, grab a
hairbrush as a microphone and make like you’re on Stars In Your Eyes and
perform a song for the rest of the family whether it’s Cliff Richard,
Madonna or McFly!
8
. Weekly news flashes: Give your grandchildren plenty of hugs
and kisses to show you love them and value the special place they hold
in your family and your heart. If they live too far away for frequent
visits, set a time to call, write or email them as often as possible.
10. Joining in with Jakers!: Bring the spirit of Grandpa
Piggley alive whenever you like with the wide range of Jakers!
story, novelty and activity books available, and the first Jakers!
DVD due to launch during the October half-term.
Borne out of the need to encourage contact between the generations,
Grandparent’s Day like the Jakers! series is a tribute to
grandparents and a great way to discover what an inspiring source of
knowledge they can be.
About Jakers!
Jakers! is a unique concept, combining traditional values, state of
the art animation and humour. This Emmy award-winning series follows the
adventures of Piggley Winks™, a young pig and his friends Dannan the
Duck and Ferny the Bull in 1950’s rural Ireland. Going back to
traditional roots, celebrating the gift of storytelling and the joy of
childhood adventures, it also demonstrates the importance of letting
children learn from their own experiences.
