How a couple from Cumbria keep the
family in touch and organise a permanent record of their lives -
with the aid of LifeThemes.
Geoff and Ada Daubney, a retired British Rail employee and nurse,
have chosen Cumbria as their retirement home. They are in their
mid-seventies and felt a need to share their retirement with their
far-flung family and to also compile some kind of

permanent
record of their lives - something that they could leave for future
generations.
“We have
four children and two grandchildren and one of our sons lives in
California. We communicate by e-mail but I’d been looking for a better
way of sharing our experiences and memories with them,” said Geoff.
Ada was also keen for Geoff to find some way of storing and cataloguing
the thousands of print and digital pictures he had amassed from his
photographic hobby and from his passion for walking, which has seen him
complete the Pennine Way, the Coast to Coast walk and the West Highland
Way as well as previously being a footpaths inspector for the Chorley
area of Lancashire.
Geoff heard about LifeThemes and went on to the web site at
www.lifethemes.com . He found just what he was looking for.
“LifeThemes looks like Windows so it’s easy to use but it’s also very
clever because as well as storing all our information and records, we
can link everything together so we can find and connect pictures,
stories or events in any number of ways.
“It has turned into a really absorbing retirement project. I can now
send slideshows to our son Geoff in Long Beach and it was a great way to
record our recent journey across America which was the real trip of a
lifetime. We’re also going to investigate the French origins of our
name, Daubney, so LifeThemes will be useful for recording that.”
