Lasercare Clinics offer their
expertise on common skin conditions
Q: I have broken veins on my face. How do I get
rid of these?
A: Broken veins are simply
visible veins appearing near the surface of the skin.
They are very common and affect men and women of all ages. They can become more
noticeable with time.
Why do they occur? Exposure to the suns ultra violet rays, wind or
extreme temperature, the use of steroid creams, hormonal changes during pregnancy,
radiotherapy and skin conditions like Rosacea, have all been recognised as contributing
factors.
There are simple ways of treating
them, and one of the most effective is lasers.
These work by matching the laser light to the colour of the blood. The laser will only interact with the unwanted thread
vein, completely bypassing normal vein-free skin.
Are there any side effects? Some lasers can cause temporary bruising and swelling to
the treated area, but you can usual normal make-up immediately afterwards.
Lasercare Clinics advocate the use of
a sunblock on a daily basis and a product cream called Diroseal which has been clinically
proven to reduce redness and the appearance of Facial Broken Veins.

Q: I am interested in having Botox treatment for the lines
around my eyes. How effective is it? Is it safe?
A: Botox has been used in medical practice for many years. Since 1973 it has
been a treatment for opthatmalogic patients to relax overactive eye muscles that cause
crossed eyes and facial tics. It is also used to treat muscular disorders,
migraine, pain relief, Axilla Hyperhydrosis (excessive sweating of the arm pit) and
excessive sweating of the feet and hands.
It has FDA (US Food and Drug
Association) approval as a treatment to reduce or eliminate wrinkles on the forehead,
frown lines between the eyes and crows feet around the eyes. It can also be used on the
neck and chest, and in some cases on the lines above the lips.
Once injected, the product takes 3
4 days to take effect. Its results will vary from one individual to another,
depending on the depth of the wrinkle and how dynamic (active) the muscle causing the
wrinkle is. Repeat treatments are needed every 4 8 months. The skin will not
regress if you decide not to continue with treatments.

Q:
My lines and wrinkles bother me. I have
been sun a worshipper for 30 years. I know I have lots of sun-damage. What can I do, if
anything?
A: We are increasingly
aware of what the suns harmful rays can do to our skin. Not only does it cause lines
and wrinkles, thus prematurely ageing us, but skin cancer kills somewhere in the region of
two and a half thousand people per year. Frightening!
For sun protection, you should begin
by seriously considering wearing a sunblock every day, with a SPF (sun protection factor)
of at least 30. This will help to protect you. A
clinical trial conducted several years ago suggested that with the daily use of a good
sunblock the ageing process was slowed down, and in some cases slightly reversed.
There are many treatments /
procedures that can improve the signs of ageing. Lines and wrinkles need to be assessed
initially. A UV light photograph can be taken to highlight the extent of damage. A
detailed medical and social history will be taken from you by a qualified medical
practitioner. Your concerns will be addressed, and options will be offered to you.
Lasercare clinics offer a complimentary consultation with a member of our nursing
staff.

skin types. To get further information and to arrange a free consultation
