Lasercare - Treatments for Broken Veins, Blemish & Birthmark Removal, Lines and Wrinkles, Botox, Collagen, Tattoo removal, Cosmetic surgery and moreLooking Good in laterlife is a regular column reporting on the latest tips on beauty products and processes for the more mature face and body.

3lookinggood.jpg (14084 bytes)Anyone who has looked after her (or his) appearance over the years has the edge in later life compared to ravers who burned all their candles at both ends. But skin, hair, eyes, lips, silhouette still show the years after fifty. Extra skin dryness, puffy eye areas, sagging around the chin, wrinkles – they all can benefit from special treatments.

A vast industry is out there to help with all and every beauty concern. In this column every month laterlife.com will report on ideas and products, old and new. The practical results of everything from creamy cleansers to mud baths will be brought to you. All with the focus on maturity of course.

The Helen Sher system (see looking good in laterlife 14) is now offering a new extension to its range of skin products. This one is in the form of capsules, the Skin Support Formula. It contains a full range of vitamins and minerals, herbs and probiotics that make up a nutritional supplement for all skin types. The inclusion of probiotics and herbs, unusual for a vitamin supplement, is to aid digestion as well as provide nutrition for the skin.

Skin Support Formula can be ordered through the Helen Sher website: www.sher.co.uk/skincare or email: skincare@sher.co.uk

or telephone 020 7499 4022. Price for 30 capsules is £10.90 and for 90 capsules £27.90

Helen Sher, at 67 living proof that her system has real mileage, has consulting rooms in London’s Bond Street and also offers a mail order service. Her creams, lotions, cleansers, moisturizers and make up products are designed for sensitive and older skins, people with acne or other problems.

What to do about thread veins

Thread veins on the legs are tiny red, blue or purplish blood vessels which are visible to the naked eye. They vary in diameter from very tiny red marks with a diameter of ½mm or less, to larger blue or purple veins with a diameter of up to 3mm. If left untreated the vessels become larger, though usually over a long period of time.

Studies have shown that thread veins affect one in five women in their twenties, with an increased incidence rate of one in two women by the time they reach their fifties. Leg thread veins can be hereditary, or the result of pregnancy or a lifestyle which has demanded prolonged standing.

The colour of thread veins is dependent on the amount of oxygen being carried by the red cells within a vessel. The smallest red vessels will carry high levels of oxygen; the larger vessels appear blue or purple because they carry less.

Treatment is usually simple, often involving laser therapy, and safe in the hands of a qualified doctor.

At Lasercare Clinics, consultation with a doctor is £60.

Consultation and minor treatment on the day (15 minute treatment) is £235

Further minor treatment is £195

If you’d like to know more about Lasercare Clinics and the treatments they provide,  look up their website: www.lasercare-clinics.co.uk

Thank you Jamie Lee Curtis

When Jamie Lee Curtis posed in a big black sports bra and big black knickers to show that she’s no longer the possessor of a taut, skinny, youthful figure, we at laterlife were appalled. Not at Jamie, but at women journalists reproaching her for exposing her normalities. For once we’re seeing a real woman, with loads of energy and a great sense of humour. All too much for some ladies of the media, it seems.
