Whats new at Estee Lauder?
Belinda Brown looks
at the latest Estee Lauder skincare and make-up products
Like all leading beauty companies, Estee Lauder is
constantly researching and developing new skincare ingredients and formulations and
never more so than in the anti-aging arena. Estee
Lauder representatives are quick to point out, however, that their products are not
categorised according to age, and that skin type and personal preference are always the
determining factors.
We
put a lot of store on one-to-one service taking the time to look at a clients
skin and analyse it so that we can offer them the best of whats available,
explains communications co-ordinator Abbie Draper. We have a number of ranges that
can be mixed and matched, and sometimes well encourage clients to do just
that.
Check
with your local department store or beauty salon for the Estee Lauder counter, and book an
appointment.
In
December 2002, Estee Lauder launched its Perfectionist
Correcting Serum for Lines and Wrinkles. Whats new about it? Heres the Estee Lauder view:
This
product works even better than Diminish, our
best-selling retinol treatment, says Abbie. Retinol a Vitamin A
derivative has many benefits but is unstable and cant be exposed to light. So
were phasing out Diminish and replacing it with retinol-free products, including
Perfectionist Serum. Using Perfectionist for just one month achieves the same level of
visible wrinkle reduction as using Diminish for six months.
As
youd expect, it doesnt come cheap
a 30ml pump bottle retails at £39.50 but Estee Lauder enthusiasts would maintain
that its worth every penny.
Day and night repair
Many
women also swear by Estee Lauders Resilience
Lift range, formulated to counteract the three main factors involved in skin ageing
time, the environment and hormonal changes. The range was launched in 1999 by Karen
Graham, now 56 years old, formally the face of Estee Lauder in the 1970s and
1980s and as beautiful as ever.
Since
late 2002, the popular face and throat crème/lotion and eye crème have been joined by Resilience Lift Overnight - a rich crème designed
for nightly use on the face and throat.
Our research has clearly identified that a
good nights sleep enables your skin to revitalise itself much more deeply,
explains Abbie Draper. This crème boosts and even helps rebuild natural collagen
production while youre asleep. Massage it onto your skin in a circular motion to
help improve circulation and reduce puffiness.
Estee
Lauder is confident that, used regularly, this crème firms and lifts the skin and
restores its youthful bounce benefits most women would be happy to pay the price
for! (£47 for 50 ml, £94 for 100 ml).
For dry and
delicate skin
The
ultimate in luxury products has to be Estee Lauders Re-Nutriv range, specifically formulated to
treat dry and delicate skin. This de luxe collection, identifiable by its
platinum-coloured jars and golden-capped vials, began life over 43 years ago with
Re-Nutriv crème originally created by Estee Lauder for herself. In 1959, when a
premium face cream in America retailed at around $10, Estee Lauder dared to advertise
Re-Nutriv crème with the words: What makes a cream worth $115? She maintained
that, like a Picasso painting, her crème was a creation worth far more than the
ingredients that went into it. Needless to say, the product shifted from shelves!
Today,
the Re-Nutriv range offers a full complement of technologically-advanced and
sumptuous-to-use products, including an intensive lifting series. New to the collection
from March 2003 is Re-Nutriv Intensive Lifting
Crème for Throat and Décolletage.. It contains extracts of olive and grape seed oil
and muru muru butter for intense moisturisation, white birch extract to lift, firm and
prevent further collagen breakdown, and Chinese barley extracts to soothe and calm the
skin. At £70 its a luxury item, but
one many women might consider.
Treatment
for age spots
The
new Re-Nutriv Intensive Age Spot Corrector is a
correcting serum, specifically designed to repair and prevent the effects of
hyper-pigmentation. It claims to reduce the appearance of age spots by penetrating deep
down to their origin pockets of pigment-producing melanin and regular use
should reduce spots to a size the naked eye cannot see. The serum contains antioxidants
including polyphenone-E (green tea extract). Again, at £60 it doesnt come cheap.
The make-up
collections
No
mention of Estee Lauder would be complete without reference to their extensive make-up
collections. These include a range of products called Pure Eden, launched in February 2003 as
lush, sensual shades fresh from the garden. Think pink lips with soft eye
colour, blush petals and eye shades like Moon Orchid and Serpent.
Eye
shadow is best applied with a damp brush, says Abbie Draper. Our eye shadows
contain tiny particles called polymers, which blend into your skin very easily. Like all
our make-up, they can be sheerly applied but they can also be built up to achieve
more intense colour.
