Fresh Face by Diana Moran

It’s rare to find a book written especially for older women, but Diana Moran has done it. She was, you may remember, the Green Goddess of TV exercise fame. And at 55 she launched Oil of Olay’s skin care range for ‘mature women’.

Her new book, Fresh Face, covers a range of subjects including make-up techniques for older women and also facial exercises. (Bravely, Diana is photographed doing some of them.)

She doesn’t go in for miracles, and there are no crazy claims. Her make-up advice is simple, easy-to-follow and practical, with an emphasis on natural products.

If you are 50-plus and want to refresh your looks, this book is essential reading.

Evening Primrose Oil for skin

A study in the International Journal of Cosmetic Science suggests that evening primrose oil can reverse effects of skin ageing in three months. It’s certainly a case of one swallow not making a summer, and the study of 40 men and women were aged 44 which is a bit young for laterlifers, but volunteers showed improvements in skin moisture, smoothness, elasticity and firmness after three months of taking six 500mg evening primrose oil capsules per day. The placebo volunteers, those on dummy pills, didn’t show these improvements.
