June, a
nutritionist, lead a healthy and active life before becoming ill. She was conscious of
eating well in the belief that healthy intestinal flora is the key to a healthy body
I was in very good health when I went into hospital in June 1999, but within 48
hours, I had developed a high fever and septicemia. she says.
It got worse. The next day, I was so poisoned I had cellulitus in
my neck and face from the infection, I was delirious, swollen, almost unrecogniseable, and
in incredible pain. Hospitalisation and heavy intravenous doses of antibiotics failed.
Side
effects from the antibiotics kicked in and three months on, June was very ill indeed.
There was pus oozing out of a wound in my head. The
toxins in my body made me break out in painful sores all over my back, chest and arms. My
liver was close to failure. I
was so tired all the time; I couldnt even brush my hair or put make-up on. I had no fighting bacteria
left in me. I couldnt walk without the aid of sticks. My husband was fantastic, but
our relationship was tense. By now we knew I could die.
It was very frightening.
Supplementary
and homeopathic products did nothing to shift the MRSA - the antibiotics were simply
wiping out the good effects of any probiotic that June took. She had candida, and a
sterile gut.
Finally, June called The Nutri Centre in
London who recommended a supplement containing soil bacteria from
Natures Biotics, a natural antibiotic that claims to kill pathogenic microbes and
boost immunity.
The
idea of eating soil bacteria sounded really bizarre, but Id have tried anything at
that stage. I took ten capsules every day, to flood the body with the bacteria, says
June.
To her sheer amazement, the strategy worked.
Within a week, the sores on my skin started to clear. Pains in my back, arms and
legs lessened. Two months later my energy levels were soaring and the bloating in my
stomach was subsiding. A year from
contracting the MRSA, June was finally given a clean bill of health.
She
says, Now I take two capsules a day to keep my immune system strong. My skin is fantastic, and I feel like a new person. I can
hardly believe even now that these bacteria had such a strong effect, but they have truly
healed me.
In nature, soil-based microbes release enzymes that kill moulds, yeasts, fungi
and other parasites that prevent plants from growing. They also produce nutrients and
growth hormones, which when absorbed by plants, help stimulate growth and reproduction.
These bacteria are thought by some researchers to work in the human body. Ingested when we
eat vegetables, they may act as a natural antibiotic. However, because of intensive use of
agriculture and chemical pesticides over the past 80 years, we dont get the
beneficial effect.
Nature's
Biotics were originally devised by Peter Dobner, a US biochemist who began studying the effects of beneficial
soil organisms on human health over 10 years ago. He sees the increase in conditions such
as IBS, chronic fatigue, allergies and poor immunity as associated with bacterial
imbalances of the gut.
Dr Peter Rothschild, immunologist at the People's Universities of the Americas in Puerto Rico , who is assessing the supplement, says, Soil based
organisms grow and multiply wherever they attach to the intestinal wall. 'There, they
begin producing enzymes and by-products that stimulate the body's ability to absorb
nutrients. At the same time they rid the
intestinal tracts of fungal infection and bad bacteria.'
Much
of the medical profession would say this is nonsense. A
healthy body will naturally create a good bacterial balance in the gut. But the growing number of gut irregularities
mentioned by Peter Dobner are notoriously difficult to treat, and MRSA is becoming a very
serious threat. Junes experience might be
sheer coincidence, but its still a story worth telling.

Organisms) 60 vegicaps price £24.95
