Help us get the brand new Later Lifestyle forum off to a flying start. Barry, Rosemary and Baz are acting as moderators and energisers of the forum and are looking forward to chatting with you. There are some interesting threads to take a look at and participate in already. So do take a couple of minutes to join in, even if you've never used a forum before. You must have a view on the election situation, so why not share what you think? And there are plenty of lighter topics too. Just go to Later Lifestyle and click on the forum link. Feedback on the current social network has suggested that it is too complex and has too many options. So that's why we are introducing a new simpler single forum which has been well proven elsewhere. You can still use the other facilities if you want, but the main focus will now be the forum and the front page will lead you straight there. If you are one of the 600+ people currently registered on the network you can login with your existing email address and password. If you've forgotten your password just click on login without giving a password and then use the 'forgot password?' link and it will be emailed to you. Just go to Later Lifestyle and click on the forum link. Maureen takes her prize
You may remember Maureen was one of our Laterlife Challenge 2009 prize winners. Last week she took up her prize and certainly found the wow factor! Read about Maureen's gliding experience and about how gliding is surprisingly accessible even at our age. Retirement Experience Workshops

Visit the laterlife interest index and the healthwise-index (covering articles in the last 2 years - both of which also provide links to lead you to earlier articles). Don't forget - you can also use the keyword site search facility on every page to find anything on the laterlife site. GUIDE GUIDE - LATEST UPDATES We believe that our series of laterlife Guides is a valuable resource for laterlife readers, so we want to remind you what's there and encourage you to make use of the guides. Each month we highlight the latest guide we've updated, so even if you've taken a look before, it's worth another visit to remind yourself and see the latest updates. This month we're taking a look at our Guide to Organising a Party. Spring is here and so the season for organising parties has also arrived! The nicer weather opens up more opportunities for parties and many of us will be organising something over the coming months. So for ideas, hints and tips, take a look at the Guide. On the front page, after the general introduction, there are some ideas for party themes and different types of party. So for some inspiration, have a look and see if anything gets you thinking. There's also a reminder to set your budget! The next page is about Venues, Guests and Invitations. there are some thoughts on different venues, from your own home to a hotel, and the implications for using different venues. There's a link to a site where you can hire a marquee if it's going to be at home and another one to a limo company if you want to transport your special guest to a hotel or other venue. Then there is some advice on choosing your guests and some help with the invitations, including links to some example invitations. The next page of the Guide is about Food and Drink. There's some help if you're thinking about doing your own catering, including links to some menus that might be suitable. Also, look out on this page for some advice on outside caterers. In terms of drink for the party, there are two links to websites that will give you some ideas for splendid cocktails. You'll want the party to Go with a Swing, so have a look at this page for some thoughts about how to achieve this. There's information and links to helpful sites on games, speeches, themes, presents, entertainment and 'extras'. Have a look at the page to see what these 'extras' might be! The final page of the Guide looks at parties that are Something Completely Different. If you want something a little bit out of the ordinary and not a conventional party, take a look and get some ideas. Organising a special party can be hard work and it takes some thought. You want it to be a success and the Guide will hopefully set you on the way to making it so. SITE FOCUS Focussing on a section of the site that could be new to you. Unfortunately, many people are still getting made redundant at the moment because of the recession. If you're one of those who has been made redundant or fears that you might be, take a look at our section on changing jobs and redundancy. When you click on the front page, you'll see an introductory paragraph with links to our sections on Job Search and Working in later life and laterlife recruitment. Both these sections can be part of your overall strategy for finding another job and they include details of resources specific to the over 50s. If you feel that you want some help in coping with the fact that you've been made redundant, have a look at Armchair Advice, which is shown further down the front page. It's a resource designed for those who are experiencing job loss through redundancy, termination or dismissal. It provides a range of assistance from legal and financial advice to emotional support. You can find expert advice and talk to people who know what you are going through. If you want part-time work following redundancy, look at our Guide to Part-time Jobs and Part-time Work It is an extensive guide to finding part-time paid or voluntary work. For general help with coping with redundancy, on the legal side,
finding another job and all sorts of other issues, go to
Redundancy Help, where
you'll find some excellent independent advice. Also,
there's a link on the page to the
DTI - which has information on rights and payments for those made
redundant. Finally, take a look at the laterlife guide written by Don Wilde called Job Search - Finding and Gaining a Job that Suits You in Later Life. It will be of help to you as you plan how to get back into work, giving you an overall strategy to work to. We hope that all this information will assist you if you have been made redundant in this current recession. It can also assist you if you've already retired and would like to get back into work. either way, take a look and see how it can help.
