NEW MAGAZINE FOR WOULD-BE ARTISTS –
exclusive to WHSmith
“I loved painting at school, and would love to be able to do it
now, but I wouldn’t know how to start”, is commonly heard
amongst the hundreds of thousands of people inspired by such TV
programmes as Rolf Harris’s Star Portraits. |
Would-be artists love seeing professional artists painting, but are
intimidated by the thought of trying it themselves.
StartArt, a beginners’ guide to drawing and painting, is a how-to
magazine providing all the information, step-by-step projects and
help that would-be painters need to get started and to create a
painting to be proud of. |
|
The magazine includes a feature by Channel 4’s Watercolour Challenge
Expert Hazel Soan on how to paint 10-minute figures, amongst up to 20
step-by-step projects including how to paint a first landscape, a
colourful still life, a scene from the garden, pet portraits, and how to
create a greetings card, plus useful information on what to buy and how
to use basic drawing and painting materials.
|
There is a free competition for beginners to enter by painting on the
sheet of top-quality watercolour paper included with the magazine, a
money-off voucher for discounted art materials, advice on what to do
next, and a readers’ painting trip to Venice with Hazel Soan for those
who get completely hooked. |
Produced by The Artists’ Publishing Company, publishers of monthly
magazine titles Leisure Painter and The Artist, StartArt
is the result of a recent readership survey in the
|
|
 |
two
magazines, identifying a strong demand for basic help and instruction
for newcomers to painting. Daniel
Martin, magazine buyer at WHSmith says, “We’re very keen to support this
one-shot magazine as a WHSmith exclusive in order to capitalize on the
current buoyancy we are experiencing in the practical art market.”
StartArt goes on-sale exclusively in WHSmith outlets from October 1st
2005.
