What do your dreams mean?

An invitation to participate in an important research study

There are many answers to the question of what dreams mean, and all kinds of dream interpretation books available. However, we at the University of Greenwich have decided to look at the question scientifically. In this new study, we are looking to see whether recent dreams relate in tone and content to life experiences and events that people are currently going through. We would be most grateful if you would be a participant in our study. To do so you need to remember at least one dream from the past two weeks. It all takes just 10-15 minutes to do, and is completed online. Participants will receive a summary of our key general findings by email, thus if you participate, you will see how you personally contributed to the science of dreaming.

Vegan Millionaire's Shortbread by Juliet Sear

Vegan Millionaire's Shortbread by Juliet SearThere are so many vegan millionaire's shortbread recipes out there that just don't work. This recipe is the best version. It took 4 attempts to make. Juliet Sear made this especially for us and her daughter, who is vegan, taste tested it for us and gave a glowing report. The caramel in this recipe sets really well and it cuts a treat. Don't waste your time making other versions, this is the one.

February Newsletter

Spring is in sight. The days are visibly lengthening, and our gardens are slowly reawakening. Depending on where you live, primroses, muscari and iris reticulata will be in flower and daffodils will be strutting their jaunty stuff.

The average day time temperature during February is a chilly 7°C, falling to 2°C at night. But these are averages so of course it may be warmer but be prepared for it to be colder too! Take advantage of those milder days by doing groundwork for the months ahead. This involves digging, weeding and mulching. And then weeding again. And again.

Welsh pubs with serious cwtch appeal

If there’s one thing Wales does well, it’s pubs. We may well be regarded as the land of song, but we can certainly sink a few pints too. Join in with the locals and enjoy a drink or two at one of these breathtaking Welsh pubs. Iechyd da! (or cheers if you like…)

Get in the flow with Tai Chi

Tai Chi is practiced by an estimated 240 million people worldwide, including thousands here in the UK, and is said to be of enormous benefit especially to older people.

What motto would you put on your Coat of Arms?

Coat of arms

Arms and crests are granted by a senior herald, one of the Kings of Arms, and actually anyone can apply for one.

Create new homes for swifts

Swifts are in serious trouble. We’ve lost half of the swifts that nest in the UK in just twenty years. There’s a lot we still don’t know about swifts, so finding the reasons behind this decline is not straightforward. But what we do know is that in many areas, the places they rely on for nesting are disappearing.

Thought that your walking holiday days were over?
Please think again.

Menorca Walking HolidaysBalearic Outdoor Holidays are Europe’s leading specialist for walking holidays "to be enjoyed not endured "on the Spanish Balearic Islands of Mallorca and Menorca. We organise holidays for couples, singles and groups alike.

We’ve been organising fully guided walking holidays on these 2 islands for 16 years and have always aimed ourselves at the easier end of the walking holiday market. Our walks are fully guided, backed up with a vehicle tracing the route and are all of around 6 miles in distance. Great accommodation plus wonderful food and wine are also very much a part of our holiday package.

Having said that, people who first enjoyed our holidays 15 years ago when they were in their 60’s are now in their mid to late 70’s and many have told us that even walking 6 miles a day has become a daunting proposition. Balearic Outdoor Holidays is a family business that’s always viewed its guests as friends and nobody likes to lose a friend.

For this reason and without wishing to alienate any of our customers who enjoy our existing walking holidays, we’ve decided to launch a softer walking product for 2019. For these holidays, we’ll be walking between 3 and 4 miles a day on generally flat or downhill terrain and these holidays will include some sightseeing.
Other than this, the content of our softer walking holidays will be more or less the same. The walks will be fully guided with 2 guides and a backup vehicle should anyone need a ride along the way. The holiday accommodation is always handpicked and of a high level. It goes without saying that as with any of our holidays, the food and wine is fantastic as well. Also, with the walks being shorter, you’ll have an extra hour in bed!!

Menorca Walking HolidaysOur “softer” walking holidays for 2019 will take place during the following weeks:

Friday 15th March – Mallorca
Friday 31st May – Menorca
Friday 13th September – Menorca (singles only)

The holiday price of £989 includes the following:

7 nights bed and breakfast.
6 wonderful meals (These will be a combination of lunches and suppers. On the days where our meal is in the evening, a picnic will be provided. All wine is included with our meals).
5 fully guided walks.
Airport transfers and all other required transport.
Tea, coffee and biscuits during each walk.
Drinking water.

If this type of holiday appeals to you, why not send us an email or call us on freephone 0800 072 4832.
We look forward to hearing from you.

John and Carolyn.
