What do your dreams mean?

An invitation to participate in an important research study

There are many answers to the question of what dreams mean, and all kinds of dream interpretation books available. However, we at the University of Greenwich have decided to look at the question scientifically. In this new study, we are looking to see whether recent dreams relate in tone and content to life experiences and events that people are currently going through. We would be most grateful if you would be a participant in our study. To do so you need to remember at least one dream from the past two weeks. It all takes just 10-15 minutes to do, and is completed online. Participants will receive a summary of our key general findings by email, thus if you participate, you will see how you personally contributed to the science of dreaming.

Can shopping be addictive?

Picture of woman carrying wrapped presents

Don’t you love this time of year...all the shops are filled with tempting new treats and gift ideas; they are warm with a buzz of excitement and lovely Christmas music playing in the background.

What’s not to like?! But for some of us, Christmas is an especially dangerous time. When we come home laden with parcels, someone might well joke we are shopaholics...but actually this is a medical condition that should not be treated lightly.

Your pets may not be as hardy as you think

A wet dog on a veranda

Because so many pets love to be out of doors and because many have their own furry coats, it is easy to think they don’t need any special attention in the colder weather.

But while they may have evolved from animals who still live happily outside in all climates, for our domesticated pets, spells of cold, wet weather can cause problems.

Silver Travel Tips:

The thought of taking a holiday by yourself might appear more than a touch brave, and you’re right! However, we are frequently told that once that first trip is under your belt, nothing could be simpler and you’ll wonder what took you so long. Here are our suggestions for getting started.

No "Men" orca, Ibiza or Mallorca

Menorca Walking HolidaysAs a young man, it seemed to me that every night club, disco or party that I attended was totally over run by other single blokes (most of whom were better looking than me), chasing girls who appeared to be in a huge minority.

Flash forward 40 years and I now run a walking holiday company on the stunning Balearic Islands of Menorca, Mallorca and Ibiza. Around half of the weeks that we organise, are for single people in their 50's 60's and 70's. Now here's the thing. Why has the world done a 180 degree turn in the last 40 years? Along with every singles holiday or activity company that I'm aware of, the participants or guests are 80% female. Often, when we meet a lady walker from the airport, one of the first questions she asks with a forlorn and rhetorical look in the eyes is "How many men are there in the group"? When my response is "3 in a group of 24", the response is "Wow, that's better than usual".

Now whilst being the walking guide to a group of stunning middle aged women is good for my reputation, I'm not as young as I used to be and could do with a hand from any single men in their 50's 60's and 70´s who enjoy walking in the sunshine, plus consuming great food and wine.

If you're a single gentleman of a certain age and think that you could help me out or ladies, if you know someone who's up to the task, why not drop me a line via our website, Facebook page, email us at sales@menorcawalkingholidays.com or call on freephone 0800 072 4832.

We look forward to bucking the trend and seeing a few of you chaps out walking with us.

Dear Silver Travellers

It’s Gold for Silver Travel Advisor! We were absolutely delighted to win the Gold Award for Best Travel Reviews Website at the prestigious British Travel Awards last week where Debbie was thrilled to receive the trophy at a very sparkly event at Battersea Evolution. What is so wonderful and makes our job so rewarding, is that it’s all down to you, our members, who voted for us! Thank you very much indeed. The Silver Towers team have been celebrating, in a mature way, of course. And congratulations to all our many partners who also won Awards, it was a bumper success all round.

And after that early Christmas gift, we are also jolly pleased to have put the latest edition of The Silver Traveller magazine to bed, which is where Jennie plans to head for a day or two after a few late nights at the printing press. If you’ve previously received a copy, the latest version should pop through your letterbox automatically by 3 January. We’ll let you know next month how to get the magazine if you’re not on the list. We think it’s a jolly good read, with one of our favourite people on the cover!

And whilst it feels a bit early to be saying it, we’d like to wish you all a fabulous Christmas wherever you are. Here’s to another exciting year at Silver Towers, we’ll be 8 years old next February. We so enjoy bringing you the best information and advice for mature travellers. Go on, take a look and pick a dream holiday for 2019.
