Any special request? To offer expertise as a
volunteer and to keep computer skills up to date.
Now volunteering with: The Haringey Phoenix Group. This
charity provides services and information for blind and partially sighted people in the
Haringey (London) and surrounding areas, and it was looking for a computer expert.
What he does: Updated the computers, set up a network
system and bought equipment at best prices. He is giving blind people, some of whom
are understandaby technophobic, the confidence to use voice activated software.
What he says: This is very satisfying
work. Two people who I particularly admire are Jagdish Tank, Secretary of the
Management Committee, who became totally blind five years ago, but who is very
computer literate and has mastered the internet; and Annette Brown, a Committee Member,
totally blind since childhood, though she finds her way round the office with no
hesitation.
What Haringey Phoenix Group say about him: Cornel
is an excellent guy and has given us wonderful help with our computers. He is
presently setting up a web page for us and we are indebted to him for his expertise.
Cornels future plans: Finding a paid job, but
also to continue giving some of my time to voluntary work. We are a close knit team
at Haringey Phoenix Group and I would be reluctant to sever my connections
there.
