Travelling with a group is a very popular way of taking a singles
holiday because of the obvious benefits of security, safety and
companionship.
Some of us love the solitude of going away truly alone, but
for many people the opportunity to share the travelling with a
group is extremely attractive. It is easier to strike up a
conversation with someone who is in your group, rather than
trying your chances with a random stranger, if you are
completely alone.
Because of this, a number of companies have sprung up in
recent years, who arrange holidays for single people who want
the chance to be part of a group. One such company is called
Companions 2
Travel, which runs a website that allows you to get in touch
with others who wish to do the same things as you. It began at
the end of 2004 and there are already nearly 14,000 people 'on
the books'. As examples of what people do who meet up and
holiday together, one group of five women went on a short break to
Barcelona whilst another small group went trekking in Namibia. So, whatever your taste, you stand a good chance of meeting
likeminded people to go with you.
A company that has been running for well over twenty years is
Solos. Solos
runs a large variety of singles holidays and you can go on a
taster break, to see if it's for you. Solos has tour guides who
meet you at the airport and are available throughout the
holiday. It also has an online forum where you can discuss tours
with people who have already been on them.
There is also a company called
Just You, which is part of the Travel Sphere group. It
caters for over 2000 singles holiday each year, has tour
managers but no single supplements and the majority of
accommodation is 4-star on a half-board basis. You can also sign
up for a monthly e-letter. Alternatively, go to the
Travelsphere website itself to learn more about the company
and to see even more holiday choices of group holidays that have
tour managers to help you enjoy every aspect of your holiday.
Voyages Jules Verne is a travel company that caters for all
types of traveller, including people who wish to take singles
holidays. Go to their website, click on Single Traveller and see
a selection of holidays for which they have negotiated no single
room supplements.
Finally, don't forget
Saga, who specialise in holidays for the over 50s. There are
no single room supplements on any of their UK holidays and many
of their overseas ones. They provide a tour manager and you will
be in the company of people like yourself. They do a huge range
of holidays, with something to suit almost everyone and many of
their resort holidays are all-inclusive.
So there is a lot of help out there if you do want to go on a
singles holiday. In fact, you're not on your own unless you
choose to be. There are many companies that encourage you to
travel as part of a group so that you can make friends as you
travel.
Take a look at the links on this page and see some
other opportunities for you if you want a singles
holiday.
