Welcome to Bath

A UNESCO World Heritage Site, Bath invites you to explore its unique mix of stunning architecture, rich heritage and rolling countryside.

Whether you’re travelling to Bath for a relaxing spa break or a weekend of culture and cuisine, you’ll be in for a treat. To help you make the most of your time, we’ve put together a short destination guide of our recommendations for the best things to do in Bath. Take a look and start planning your coach trip today.

When travelling to Bath, no visit is complete without a trip to the grand Roman Baths Temple or the Thermae Bath Spa, where you can bathe open-air in warm, mineral rich waters. There’s also a wide range of spas in and around the city for those who are after a pampering break.

If you want to really get to the heart of Bath, a boat trip around the city makes for a memorable day out. Pass by the house that Jane Austen once lived at Green Park, or soak up the sights of the River Avon’s wildlife.

If you’re travelling to Bath as part of a group, a visit to Bath Postal Museum teaches you all about writing during the Georgian period. You can even have a go at writing just like Jane Austen did, using a quill.

Bath’s fantastic shopping opportunities are split into several areas, each brimming with its own character. The centre of Bath features all the usual favourites, such as high street stores, gift shops and quaint little cafes. Slightly off the beaten track, you’ll find a network of little cobbled streets and hidden precincts. Stroll around charming boutiques, designer stores, bookshops, adorable tea shops and farmers’ markets selling local produce.

For free

Royal Victoria Park is the perfect location for a picnic. With a boating pond, botanical garden and golf course, it certainly makes for great family fun. Throughout the summer months, you can even watch the hot air balloons take to the skies.

If the weather is nice, a stroll or bike ride along the Kennet and Avon Canal will take you past some glorious scenery and postcard-pretty countryside spots. Be sure to pack your camera.

Culture and heritage

Nourished by Britain's only natural hot springs, Bath is famed for its waters as much as its Roman heritage. The magnificent Roman Baths Temple lies at the heart of the World Heritage Site.

The temple ruins which surround the hot springs, have been carefully preserved, making this one of the largest attractions in the UK. A visit to the 18th century Pump Room offers you the chance to taste some of the natural spring water for just 50p.

Literature fans should head to The Jane Austen Centre, celebrating Bath’s most famous resident. The centre offers an insight into the life during the Regency period, including costume and film, as well as serving delicious cream teas.

Bath is also home to a wide range of galleries, museums and medieval churches. A trip to the top of Bath Abbey offers breathtaking views across the city.

Where to eat and drink

Famed for its warm hospitality, you’ll find a great range of places to eat and drink in Bath. From cosy pubs and quaint tearooms to award winning restaurants and chic hotel bars, you’ll be spoilt for choice. Serious food lovers can even plan their visit to coincide with one of the many food and drink events that run throughout the year.

On a shoestring: The Sausage Shop. This place does what it says on the tin and serves up high quality sausage, mash and gravy in over 30 varieties.

Middle of the road: The Pump Room. The ultimate cream tea treat after a visit to the Bath Spa temple.

Splash the cash: The Olive Tree. Delicious, locally sourced, award winning food, served in beautiful surroundings. Be sure to book ahead.
