Whether you're looking for somewhere to have a Valentine's meal, a spontaneous date night or a special dinner with your other half, there are many options for romantic places to dine across Wales. We've picked out ten restaurants from across the country that stand out on the romance scale – be it because of their menu, the surrounding scenery or the atmosphere. Bon appétit, cariad!

With nature all around them, they source vegetables and herbs from their garden and meat and fish from locals. The Chef's Signature Menu is a seven-course fancy affair that shows off the kitchen talent.

Book a table in the dining room, a luxurious room with rosewood lining the walls and a cosy atmosphere. The food is pure quality without pompousness. Most ingredients are sourced within a 50 mile radius, with fresh fruit, vegetables and herbs from Newquay, meat and fish from Cardigan and Newport and cheese from Llandysul.

The head chef at this popular fine dining eatery trained at the prestigious Claridges Hotel in London. His menus focus on modern British cuisine, including plenty of locally sourced options and European influences. The three course menu is very reasonably priced, but the low cost is no reflection on the quality. Bring a bottle of wine or bubbles (it's BYOB) and celebrate your relationship here.

The major selling point of this restaurant is the spectacular view. The restaurant looks out onto Cardiff Bay, and on a clear day you can see for miles and miles. While the à la carte menu offers decent fine dining, you may have more fun with one of their afternoon tea offerings. Each offers savoury nibbles and stacks of sweet treats with hot drinks or fizz on the side.

Given that Paris is a city of romance, it's not surprising that eating at Chez Francis in Cardiff is a wine-and-dine romantic experience. The menu offers an array of French classics. Think charcuterie boards, baked cheeses, oysters, snails and boeuf bourguignon to name a few. As for tipples, there are over 30 wines to choose from (and warm staff to help you pick).

This Monmouthshire restaurant with rooms is run by the internationally acclaimed chef Stephen Terry and his wife Joanna. It's a humble venue given the class and choice of the food. On the menu are plenty of delicately balanced classics and local fare. Examples include linguine with fresh white crab meat and brown shrimps and a butternut squash rotolo with local goats cheese and greens.

Originating from the 1960s, The Walnut Tree has a longstanding reputation for fine food in an informal setting. In fact, it was named Wales' best restaurant in the 2014 National Restaurant Awards. Their menu is eclectic and predominantly includes meat and fish cooked with finesse. Leave time to walk around the gardens and explore the natural beauty of the surrounding countryside.
